Salary: £25,000 per annum

5 weeks annual holiday, tips additional to salary review after 3 months

Summary of Job Purpose:

To ensure the smooth and efficient running of The Restaurant.  To ensure that all customers receive the best possible service.  General supervision of every aspect of the restaurant including stock control, personnel, equipment maintenance, staffing rotas, following all start up/shut down procedures to include cashing up and handovers.  Some of this role is distributed between other senior members of the team in order to allow development of other aspects – social media and training etc.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervising the restaurant during scheduled shifts, which includes daily decision making, staff support, continued customer interaction, product quality and cleanliness
  • Supervising staff throughout their shift, providing employees with positive and constructive feedback and taking the appropriate action where necessary
  • Greeting customers with a smile and in a polite and friendly manner at all times
  • Party bookings and function organisation, making sure that all requirements for large parties and all special requests are actioned, passed on to relevant departments and documented on the computer spreadsheets in conjunction with the Events Manager.
  • Deal with customer complaints when necessary
  • Liaise with floor and chefs over correct staffing levels and sending staff home during quiet times
  • Ensuring that communication between the restaurant and the kitchen is clear and smooth running
  • Ensuring that all employees adhere to the company’s uniform standards, policies and procedures – referring to Handbook if required
  • Assist in recruiting, training and motivating staff
  • Checking the weekly clock cards of restaurant staff
  • Performing staff reviews and appraisals as required
  • Take disciplinary action if required and ensure that correct procedures are adhered to and that the correct documentation is produced for HR files
  • Ensure health and safety standards are adhered to by monitoring and maintaining risk assessments
  • Preparation of staff rota and delegation of duties in conjunction with other departments where applicable eg outside catering
  • paying particular attention at all times to quality control, hygiene and health and safety
  • Preparing the administration for daily menus/specials
  • Ordering supplies; checking deliveries for bar and wet stock
  • Ensuring that stock and cash control are maintained
  • Daily cashing up, ensuring that proper cash handling procedures are followed
  • Dealing with daily correspondence through emails etc, and passing to relevant department
  • Preparing daily handover, which may include staff control, food and sales; together with any incidents (highs and lows) to report.  Circulating handover as necessary to senior members of the team to action as appropriate and follow up (via email) a bit of a blog!
  • ensure the calm and smooth running of the restaurant particularly when the team are working under pressure
  • Assisting in the creation and execution of plans for department sales, profit and people development eg incentives etc. in conjunction with the business manager
  • Ensure equality and diversity procedures are adhered to at all times
